I am smalltalk

I stumbled upon a web-quiz, and I pleasantly discovered I’m smalltalk :)

The results of a micro iteration: Planet Nimboo

Following the announcement on bard’s blog, I would like to show you the result of the micro iteration I wrote about a couple of days ago: Planet Nimboo.

We use it to aggregate our blogs, and it’s quite simple, it’s only a ruby script with an erb template (how long since you last saw .rhtml files without rails? :) ), and bard has also cleaned up the code and made it available so you can play with it and make it better:

Code: script, template

OpenCoffee and Italy. Part 2 and good news.

I was quite happy when I read this post on Marco Barulli’s blog. As he said on his comment to is italy ready for opencoffee? he went to an OpenCoffee meeting in London, where he demoed the wonderful Clipperz, and the response has been quite favorable.

This is just a small piece of evidence that adds to all the evidence I have about a simple but true statement: “Italy is ready for venture capital yet no one does anything”.

Will we ever be able to solve this problem? Live and see.

Geeks at Work: Feisty Fawn and the missing window borders with Beryl

Welcome to the post with the longest title on A Tempest of Thoughts :)

Today I upgraded my linux development box tu Ubuntu 7.04, Feisty Fawn, mainly because I read it run Beryl out of the box. Unfortunately “out of the box” means “not your box, intinig”, and I had Beryl crashing on me and leaving me without window borders and unable to drag anything.

While trying to understand what was happening I opened a terminal window and it was blank. I was lucky I rememberd my previous post, and the fix worked even for the window borders.

As they say, “3D Desktop for teh win!!1!”, big kudos to Ubuntu for their unbelievable development pace.

Micro Iterations: How to boost your productivity

I have found a way to boost my productivity, and I can say without doubt it works very well :)

Like most of you I have dozens of pet projects that can be done very quickly but require focused time, and time is the scarcest resource of them all, so together with my friend bard, and the other nimboo guys we decided to dedicate a hour, two or three times a week to work together on some project, with the condition that we have to choose something that can be done in a hour, no more.

The results have been staggering and yesterday we met together to work on planet.nimboo.net, an aggregator for the nimbooers’ blogs. In half a hour planet was up and running :)

If you have a couple of friends to do this kind of exercises together please try creating some small product together, you’ll be happy you did.
