Back on the twitter-wagon

A big lot of thanks to Fullo for suggesting me to try twitter-tools to solve the performance related problems I had with twitter.
The plugin is wonderfully written and I customized it just a bit, to fit better with the layout. Now I have another problem, to keep the twitter updates as real-time as possible I had to disable wp-cache, the cache plugin I use on tempe.st, because it doesn’t think that a sidebar update is worth a page refresh.
Anyone can suggest a better cache implementation for wordpress?
Twitter: good or bad?

I just read a wonderful post by Kathy Sierra about twitter, and how it is almost the proverbial last straw among the forced interruptions to our flow.
I suggest you go and read the post. It is well written, as usual for Kathy, and it really made me think about twitter / im / email / ...
Sometimes I can’t do any real work because I’m swamped by external inputs, and I usually turn off most of my IM accounts when working.
Starting next monday I will try a strict no-interruption policy from 9am to 5pm and see if I’m able to be more productive than I am right now.
Do you have the same problems I have with intterruptions?
Twitter performance problems?

I think I have a special power: “Start using something seconds before it becomes so popular it starts to have problems”, and I think I used this power when I chose to embed twitter in my left column.
Twitter has become so popular that it’s dog-slow right now, and their jabberbot is down more often than not.
I will trust the twitter for a couple of days more, I’m sure they’re doing their best, but if performance keeps being abysmal, I will have to drop twitter from my blog (and I would hate to do that).
I’m late, I know, but I like Twitter

I am probably the only one who didn’t know how addicting Twitter twitter was until yesterday. I set up a twitter account just to experiment with the possibilities of having my status updates on this blog, and I fell in love with it.
To me the killer feature has been updating via jabber. I always have SamePlace open in a sidebar in Mozilla and this way twitter is only a shortcut away, I don’t even need to change tab or window.
The javascript snippet they offer is also very clear and you can adapt it to your layout in a couple of minutes. I’m updating my status every half a hour or so and I get a strange sense of fulfillment by doing so, and they tell me this is a sign of addiction
I haven’t tried the socialf features of twitter (yet). I’ll let you know when I do. Enjoy my status updates
